Excerpt from CHAYSING DESTINY by JALPA WILLIBY

Chaysing Destiny: Book 3 (Chaysing Trilogy)
Excerpt from CHAYSING DESTINY by JALPA WILLIBY
I’ve read the first two books from this series, but haven't had the time to read the last one.  I absolutely LOVE, LOVE these characters.  I have yet to understand how some writers can bring their characters to such vibrant life, but Jalpa does just that.  Anyway, here are my 5 star reviews for Chaysing Dreams and Chaysing Memories.

Book Description Chaysing Dreams

It comes down to one simple choice: freedom or love.
Would you sacrifice your freedom for love?

Chaysing Dreams (Chaysing Trilogy Book 1)

As long as Tess can remember, she has always had the same nightmares where the girl in her dreams is running for her life, with an unknown force chasing her. Each time, right before the girl is caught, Tess awakens, shaken with fear and confusion. Who is the girl? What do these dreams mean?

Getting through the growing pains of high school with her best friends Jack and Kylie, and then being accepted into her dream college, Tess is excited to start her life of independence. There, she meets the mysterious trainer and mentor, Chris, and she instantly feels a strong connection with him. But Chris wants nothing to do with her. Although Chris continues to give her the cold shoulder, his overprotectiveness and the occasional slips of sensitivity confuse Tess. Not understanding Chris or their relationship, she is on a constant emotional rollercoaster with him.  Could her best friends be the stable force that she desperately needs?

As Tess tries hard to keep her life on the right track, tragedy strikes when she least expects it. This time, even with the help of her best friends, she is not sure if she can overcome the horrific ordeal.  But to her surprise, the most unlikely ally shows up.

Unfortunately for Tess, the more she tries to connect the missing pieces of her life, the more obscure her past and future appear to her. Tess is unexpectedly exposed to a world of secrecy, deceit, and danger, causing her to be running for her life, chased by the unknown. Can Tess escape and save not only herself, but also her loved ones? Or, will she be caught, leaving her no choice but to face her worst nightmare?

Book Description for Chaysing Memories

Even if your mind forgets, will your heart remember?

Chaysing Memories (Chaysing Trilogy Book 2)
They say you can’t beat Fate.  She has the power to fill your heart with happiness or shatter it into a million pieces.

Too many lies, too many secrets. Tess’s perfect little world is now nothing more than chaos. She is determined to find inner strength, happiness, and peace. And yet, she can’t remember some of the most crucial events of her life, including the man she once fell in love with. Will she be able to trust her instincts and listen to her heart before it’s too late?

Chayse has given up his life for her. And he would do it again. A man, once powerful and fierce, now has lost control of everything around him. Can he hang on to the slim hope that somehow Tess will be able to find him and save him from his hell, even though she has no idea who he is?

Don’t miss this highly anticipated sequel to the Amazon best seller, Chaysing Dreams, as Tess’s story continues in Chaysing Memories. Travel the journey with Tess as she bravely barrels through the enigmatic path, through her laughter and tears, through her pain and desire. This compelling novel will shock you with startling revelations and will keep you frantically turning pages until the very end.

Chapter Four of Chaysing Destiny

Now, as I hide in the trees, I think about how much my life has changed. It’s amazing how having a baby has shifted my perspective and priorities in life. Consumed with hatred for the ones who killed Chayse, I would have died seeking my revenge. But now, I have to live. I have to live for Jace and make sure he stays safe. I want to watch him grow up to be a man. I want to see him fall in love and have his own children. I want to live for my future grandchildren.

I will still seek my revenge, but I have to be smart about it. I can’t afford to be reckless with my decisions. Every move must be carefully calculated and planned. After all, I’ve promised Jace that I’ll be back before he knows it. I’m confident that the group that attacked the villagers would know about Saheim. I need to formulate a plan to attain the information out of one of them.

As I sit in the shadows, and my left thumb subconsciously seeks for the reassurance of my ring, I feel nothing but my bare flesh of my ring finger. Since the first day of receiving the ring, it has never left my finger. It makes me feel like Chayse is always by my side, every step of the way. But, just before leaving for this assignment, I took it off and left it back home, not wanting any unnecessary attention to myself.

Instinctively, my hand travels to my neck, feeling the heavy metal against my chest. The necklace Chayse had given me now lies against my skin, hidden under my clothes. The heart and the teardrop charm on the chain is a daily reminder of our relationship and my vow to seek revenge.
*****
After about an hour of hiding, I decide that it should be enough time for the villagers to escape far enough to be safe. I head toward the village to see if I can gather any clues. If I’m lucky, maybe some of the attackers are still around.

When I’m approximately halfway there, I hear voices. Taking cover behind the bushes, I listen intently. The voices become louder, so I know they are heading toward my direction.
When I can finally hear a bit more clearly, I recognize that they are speaking Arabic. Before coming to this assignment, I’ve made sure to be fluent in the language.

“Well, they killed a lot of our men,” yells one of the men.

“Who do you think they were?”

“I don’t know. Are you sure they headed this direction?”

“Yeah, but that was a while ago. I don’t know why nobody is caught yet.”

“I want them caught, you hear me? Nobody is allowed to challenge us. And they will be punished. I want our men to look for these people.”

“Saheim, how many men do you think there were? How can they all disappear?”

Saheim? Luck must be on my side. Saheim is walking right into my trap! From the sound of it, it looks like there are about four men total. That shouldn’t be a problem at all. But I can’t kill Saheim. I need him alive.

“There must be enough of them to cause that kind of damage to our men. We lost twelve men tonight. I don’t understand how nobody saw anything.”

I creep silently forward until I have a visual on the four men walking with their guns drawn. Now, I just have to figure out which one is Saheim.

“We were all shocked. They were all hiding. The attacks came from nowhere and everywhere. Some of them were shooting, and some were good with their knives.”

“Did you find out where the people from the town went? Are you sure it wasn’t them?” Okay, I see him now. He’s the tallest one out of the bunch. As he walks, nothing but raw power radiates out of him, demanding respect.

“The ones that lived, escaped. But I know it wasn’t the townspeople who retaliated. They don’t have the skills for that kind of attack.”

“We’re searching every inch of these woods until we find the attackers. I don’t care if it takes all night. We’ll spread out. But, Abbas, make sure to bring more men here to help us with the search. And we call each other for backup if anything suspicious is noted,” Saheim orders, his words cutting through the still of the night.

All four men separate, but I keep my eyes on Saheim. Like a predator, I silently stalk him. I want him to proceed further into the woods, so I can easily take him out without worrying about the others. Once I knock him out, I plan on tying him up and calling my team to come get us. Sterns will be shocked that instead of getting mere information on Saheim, I bring in the guy himself. After all this time, we’ll finally be able to get to the bottom of the identity of our enemy—my personal enemy.

All of the hate that I’ve possessed for the last couple of years is now projected toward this one man. It makes me sick what he stands for—hurting the innocent people and terrorizing the helpless with his big guns. It’s time to teach him a lesson with a taste of his own medicine.

I maintain far enough distance from him initially, so he doesn’t suspect anything. I want to catch him by surprise and make this quick. I watch his stride as he descends deeper into the woods. It’s a powerful stride, full of confidence and danger. But, I don’t let that intimidate me. I’ve seen many like him. Their cockiness and arrogance usually end up being their downfall.

Within twenty minutes, we’re deep enough in the woods where it’s just the two of us. Knowing I have an advantage since he has no idea he’s being followed, I crouch closer to him without making a single sound.

When I feel like there’s just enough distance between us that I can knock him out cold in a single strike, I pounce toward him. Leaping in the air, I’ve got my leg extended to kick him on the back of his head. Expecting to fully meet my mark, I’m surprised when my target swiftly ducks out of the way. I land back on my feet, ready to strike again.

Although Saheim seems surprised at my attack, he’s ready for the battle. I can’t see his face since he has a scarf wrapped around his face. Coward!

I’m sure he has no idea that I’m a woman because I have a man’s clothing on, as well as a similar black scarf wrapped around my face.

We both prance in a circle, sizing one another up. After several more seconds of circling and calculating, I lose my patience and strike again. Saheim blocks my strike and attacks back. I flip out of the way and slide down to take his knees out. Saheim jumps up and around, turning to face me again. This time, he charges toward me, switching to offense again. I’m able to block his strikes and move myself out of the way.

Surprised at how fast this guy can move, I realize that I’m running out of time. I have to take control of this battle. Using all of the tricks I’ve learned, I try to gain the upper hand. Frustrated that we’re both evenly matched, I leap forward in the air. At the last second, I switch my attack and slide on the ground, striking at his legs. Taking his legs out from under him, he falls on his back, and I end up on top of him.

As he lies under me, his brown eyes stare back at me, full of curiosity. We both glare at one another in awe, and I lose all control of any rational thoughts. As if hypnotized, my hand floats up on its own volition to move his scarf out of the way. I have to see this mysterious Saheim. Before he can stop me, I pull the scarf off.

I gasp in shock.

Everything begins spinning out of control.

This can’t be real.

“Chayse,” I whisper.

His eyes widen in disbelief.

“Hey, Saheim! Is everything okay?” I hear a voice far off in the distant, speaking in the native language.

Before I can react, Chayse’s fist lands hard on my jaw, and the darkness swallows me.
